Do you know how much money you spend each day photocopying, filing, distributing, and updating paper documents? Most companies don't. Because paper handling has been a part of office procedures for so long, it is commonly overlooked as a cost. "Going paperless" with an Electronic Document Management System, or EDMS, is proven to reduce document handling costs and liabilities-in some functions, saving up to 90% of labor costs.

So here we are - 32 years into the problem of spam, one billion dollars deep into the problem of solving it, but still haven't been able to eliminate it.  In 2009, "spam" email comprised 81% of all messages sent. And the characteristics of spam are continually evolving faster than the anti-spam software that's supposed to filter it out. A simpler solution, then, would be to identify what makes a "good" email, and just ignore all the rest.  You do this by building a "whitelist."

Worst Practices in Business Computing
  1. Never Back Up Anything.
  2. Never test your backup by restoring it.
  3. Never update the list of items or folders which are being backed up.
  4. Never back up logfiles. Let's have a contest to see whose can get the largest!!
  5. Never Upgrade Anything. There is nothing wrong with having outdated versions of software -- if it works, don't fix it.
  6. Don't update your virus signature files or subscribe to anti-virus updates.
  7. Allow your Firewall and security protection to get outdated, if you have any.
  8. Open all email attachments!
  9. Encourage employees to download music for their iPods and other fun executables.
  10.  Don't Train your Users. Hand them a book and/or show them the F1 key. You'll save tons of money on training! (…not so much on support and employee turnover.)
Of course we are poking fun at "Best Practices" lists and trying to entertain you.
If you are guilty of any of the above behaviors and want to discontinue them, if you need help changing your habits, please contact MicroComputer Resources at 954-229-6033 or email Info@mcrinc.com.
